Summary
Guild Hall Roof Renovations underway
Henley in Arden Guild Hall
Roof refurbishment and other repairs
After a long time in the planning and fund-raising, work on the Guild Hall roof is about to start and will take about three months to complete.
The construction project involves refurbishing the roof using a combination of new and existing tiles, installation of roof insulation, repairs to the chimney stacks and to the rainwater gutters and pipes. This will require scaffolding to be erected around all four sides of the building. There may be some disruption along the High St when scaffolding is being erected, but once in place the footpath will remain open and safety measures will be in operation to protect the public.
While the scaffolding remains in place we hope to be able to carry out necessary repairs to the external timber framed walls, but this will depend on raising additional funds in the meantime.
All these renovations are vitally important to protect this historical and iconic building from further decay and deterioration of its fabric and timber structure. The Guild Hall is more than just an important heritage asset. It is a much loved and supported focal point for the whole community, demonstrated by the funds raised for the roof project, entirely from fund-raising events and donations from individuals and local organisations. The Guild Hall is home to the Court Leet and is widely used by many groups in the community for a diverse range of activities such as meetings, dinners, arts and cultural events, wedding receptions and funeral wakes. Since 2014, the ground floor has been occupied by The Pain & Injury Clinic, to which access will be unrestricted during the works. Restoration of the building will help ensure its continued functional use and enjoyment by todays and future generations.
Work will start in the week commencing 16 March.
