Birmingham Road Railway Abutments – Restoration Works

Summary

Two way traffic management system in place from 13 January for up to six weeks due to substantial works to the bridge on Birmingham Road north of Henley-in-Arden

The JPC has today received the following notification from Warwickshire County Council

I would like to let you know about the upcoming restoration works to the dis-used railway abutments on Birmingham Road north of Henley-in-Arden starting on 13th January 2025 for a duration of up to 6 weeks. These works were initially due to start on 17th February 2025 but have been brought forward following discussions to incorporate other nearby planned roadworks and reduce the amount/duration of traffic management on the local network.

Following routine vegetation clearance works last year both structures were found to have large areas of loose brickwork and minor works were undertaken immediately to ensure the short-term safety of the structures to members of public while a more substantial package of works was produced. The works to both abutments will consist of large areas of brickwork removal and replacement, vegetation removal, installation of anti-vegetation matting, edge protection installation and repointing works to help stabilise both structures. To undertake these works a substantial scaffolding system will need to be installed in front of each abutment to allow access and this in turn will require 24 hour 2-way traffic management on the carriageway for the full duration. Safe pedestrian access routes will be maintained throughout the works.
